What is a Content Management System (CMS)?

A Content Management System or CMS, for short, allows you to make live changes to your website online via a powerful text editor. The CMS also allows you to upload photos and files to your website. You don't need to know HTML, in fact, if you know how to use a word processor you can use a CMS. Here is a link to the Wikipedia definition of a Content Management System.

How do Content Management Systems work?

Content management systems store web page data in a database located on a web server. When you save a page the CMS will write the changes to the database and when users view the page the CMS will read that data from the database and present it back to them.

Are Content Management Systems Easy to Use?

Most CMSs, such as Wordpress, are exceptionally easy to use. To make use of a CMS you must login to the system with a username and password. You then select the page you wish to edit and modify that page via an online text editor, which for all intents and purposes is a simple word processor.

What are the Most Common CMSs and Which One Does UTD Utilise?

The most common CMSs out there are Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. If you wish to utilise any of these CMSs UTD can facilitate you. We do feel however that some CMSs are quite restrictive when it comes to design and are bloated with functionality, so we often utilise our own simplified CMS to give our customers a simple, intuitive interface. It also means our designs are not limited in any way.
